Police detain suspect for allegedly murdering neighbour’s 4-year-old daughter

    By Flowerbudnews

The Police Command in Enugu State has
detained one Chukwuemeka Nweke, 30, for alleged gruesome murder of his neighbour’s 4-year-old, Miss Zinachukwu Ugwu, in cold blood while she was sleeping.

The Command’s Spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, said in s statement on Wednesday in Enugu that Nweke was detained for investigation on Aug. 18, 2024 at about 10:30p.m.

    Ndukwe noted that on Aug.18,
police operatives serving in the Command’s Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad hastened to a compound at Orba Road within Nsukka Local Government Area, upon receiving a distress call alleging murder of a 4-year-old girl.

According to him, the lifeless body of the child was taken to the hospital, confirmed dead, and deposited in the mortuary.

The command’s spokesman further said that the knife used by the suspect to commit the crime, quantities of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, and an object suspected to be a charm were recovered from him.

He said, “A preliminary investigation reveals that the suspect hails from Umuagu-Ozalla in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State but resides in the said compound with the child’s parents and others.

“He initially attempted to attack other neighbours who resisted him and escaped before going into the victim’s apartment, where he saw the helpless child sleeping, and used the knife to cut through her throat.

“This was after the mother of the child had run out to take the other of her children to safety before coming back for the victim.

“The suspect confessed to the crime, claiming that he acted alone but under the influence of Indian hemp, methamphetamine (locally known as “Mkpuru-mmiri”), and Action Bitters alcoholic drink he consumed earlier.”

Ndukwe said that the suspect also confessed to being a member of the Vikings Confraternity and that in 2022, while residing in Jos, Plateau State, he was involved in a cult clash during which he murdered a male member of the rival cult group.

He noted that the suspect would be arraigned and prosecuted once investigations are concluded.

“The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Kanayo Uzuegbu, has described the act as barbaric and unthinkable.

“The commissioner condoles the victim’s parents, siblings, and friends, assuring that everything possible will be done to secure justice for the innocent child.

“Hence, he orders the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department Enugu to ensure that ongoing investigations are concluded, and the case prosecuted within record time.

“The commissioner also urged the citizenry to, as much as possible, be conversant with the behavioural patterns of their neighbours to avert senseless incidents of this nature,” he added.

Businessmen sue I-G, others for N1bn over alleged unlawful arrest, detention

Two businessmen; Teniola Adesanya and Goodluck Olatunde, have filed a N1 billion suit against the Inspector-General (I-G) of Police and six others over allegations bordering on unlawful arrest and detention.

The suit, marked: FCT/HC/CV/3237/2024 was filed at the High Court of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by their lawyer, Mr. B. S. Akinwumi.

The applicants; Adesanya and Olatunde, are suing along with the companies – Oxford International Group Limited, Oxford Gold Integrated Ltd, Oxford Green Farms Ltd, Oxford Real Estate and Facility MGT Ltd and Oxford Commercial Services Ltd.

They sued the I-G, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), DIG Habu Sabi, ACP Mohammed Lawan, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Dangote Group Staff Multi-purpose Cooperative Society Ltd.

In the fundamental rights enforcement suit, the applicants stated that they had operated smoothly and met their investors’ expectations and ensured return on their investments until when they had an issue with the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC).

They stated that during the dispute with SEC, their businesses were hampered, which made it difficult for them to pay their investors, including the Dangote Group Staff Multi-purpose Cooperative Society, what was due to them as and when due.

The applicants added that while efforts were on to resolve their issue with the SEC, some of their investors panicked and petitioned the NPF, which led to their earlier arrest and detention along with some of their staff members.

They stated that, while the dispute with SEC was resolved via a consent judgment of the Federal High Court, in which their companies were directed to pay only the investment sum to their investors without any interest, police’s investigation also showed that they committed no criminal offences.

The applicants noted that not only did the consent judgment showed that the whole issues were commercial in nature, police investigation
on the complaints by some of their investors also showed that the transactions had no criminal elements.

The investigation report, released by the NGF, dated July 27, 2023 and signed by DCP Tahir Usman of Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja, which is attached to the suit, showed that the transactions had no criminal elements.

Part of the findings in the report reads: “The entire case wes based on contract which is purely civil in nature.

“The police has no legal backing to delve into matters that are purely civil in nature, moreso a case that a court of competent jurisdiction had ruled that the company makes refund to its investors without delay.

“It is worthy of note that as at the time of going into the contract between the parties there was no criminal intention, it was purely a profit making venture.

“The police as an organisation, should not allow itself to be used in civil matters, more especially where financial transaction are involved and no traces of elements of crime.”

The applicants, however, stated that despite the consent judgment, which they had continued to comply with, and the findings in the police reports, some officials of the security outfit continued to harass and threaten them with arrest and further detention.

They, therefore, prayed the court to among others, intervene and grant all the reliefs they sought to ensure that the NPF, its officials and the EFCC “do not abuse their investigative and prosecutorial powers.”

They sought an order of perpetual injunction restraining the I-G and other respondents from continuing to invite them, harass them and threaten to arrest and detain them over the same transactions with their investors.

They equally sought an order directing the respondents, except the EFCC, to pay to them N1 billion as damages for the breach of their fundamental rights, among others.

  • Billionaire kidnappers: Police make shocking discovery, record breakthrough in investigations

Billionaire kidnappers: Police make shocking discovery, record breakthrough in investigations

    By Flowerbudnews
Lagos: Police detectives in Lagos investigating the recent killing of nine billionaire kidnappers said to be terrorizing Lagos and environs have made a shocking discovery, while also record a breakthrough in their investigations, it was learnt over the weekend.

Before now, the only reported member of the gang gunned down by police sharp shooters during the deadly encounter was a popular Nollywood actor and producer based in Port Harcourt identified as Prince Henry Ode.

(President General Ladipo International Market. The person on his left side is Chris Okafor, Vice President General of Ladipo International Market. By the CP’s immediate right is Chief Onyeka Igwe, Chief of staff to the President, and next is the General Secretary, Ladipo International Market.)

While sceptism over the report continues to linger, it has been authoritatively confirmed that the actor and producer was really one of the billionaire kidnappers killed by detectives from the Commissioner of Police Special Squad at the popular Ladipo auto spare parts market where they came to kidnap a wealthy business man.

It was learned that police investigations have been significantly helped by the recovery of four mobile phones from the pockets of the dead kidnappers and other vital and personal items. Police sources said the first shocking discovery made by detectives was that the two vehicles used by the kidnappers – a Lexus 350 Jeep and 4 Runner Jeep – belonged to the actor. The two vehicles that were discovered to be their operational vehicles were duly registered in his name.

Similarly, the two mobile telephones they used for operations were also registered in the name of the actor but with pictures of two yet-to-be identified young men and fake addresses. Sources said that apart from that, every other information in the documentary information detectives got were in his name.

It also gathered that detectives have been able to discover that one of the killed billionaire kidnappers was a twin who lived with his twin brother in one of the suburbs of Lagos. Sources said the twin brother fled from their residence after he learned of the fate that befell his brother. This was after a WhatsApp user wrote that he knew the twins and had been able to identify five of the killed kidnapers.

He wrote: “Yesterday was a very revealing and eye-opening day for me. Five of these kidnap gang were identified, and the shocking part is that 2 of them live in my immediate environs, and I actually know them from a particular bar I frequent in my area. I was showing the owner of the bar the gruesome videos and pictures, and she suddenly screamed out aloud. She pointed to the picture and shouted ….don’t I know these guys, Ejima and Odogwu? But the bloodied faces did not make me recognize them. She proceeded to unlock her phone and showed me pictures of the guys in fresh clothes when they attended her birthday on the 27th of June, last month. I was also at the birthday and my brain just immediately rewound, and I recollected them spraying her mint notes of N500 denominations’ and remembered their table that was doused with very expensive liquor. They were the “Dorime” masters of that night.”

Police sources disclosed that one of the fleeing members of the gang was traced to a popular city in the North, and efforts are in top gear to arrest him. This is just as another of their popular rendezvous in Lagos has been discovered and detectives are keeping close watch over activities going on there with a view to identifying more of their gang members and arresting them. “Already, the owner of one of the popular beer parlours where the kidnappers reportedly frequent, is in police net and is given useful information to the police,” one source squealed.

Furthermore, it was gathered that the kidnappers were able to escape police searchlight for that long because they were always fully kitted with military uniforms and other accoutrements, which gave them easy passage at police checkpoints. The camouflage uniforms were among items recovered in their cars after their encounter with the police at Ladipo.

Meanwhile, executive members of Ladipo market recently paid solidarity visit to Lagos State Police Commissioner, Adegoke Fayoade, where they commended him and the police for the feat they have achieved in flushing criminals out of the market. During the visit, they presented a certificate of commendation to the police boss and promised to cooperate with the police “in their tireless efforts to curtail crime in the area.”

In the same vein, it was learned that some hoteliers and businessmen also visited the police boss and revealed that following the elimination of the billionaire kidnappers, their businesses have started booming based on the fact that customers who were afraid of coming out in the nights now feel free and enjoy all night long.

Police E-CMR: IG Orders Suspension of Enforcement Following Public Outcry

As POLICE HIGHLIGHTS BENEFITS, EFFICIENCY OF E-CMR as an APPLICATION TO CURB VIOLENT CRIMES

    By Biola Lawal

Abuja (Flowerbudnews):  The Inspector General of Police,  Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has ordered immediate suspension of the planned enforcement of E-CMR on vehicle owners in the country.

Flowerbudnews recall that the police authorities had announced planned enforcement of the possession of the E-CMR on motorists nationwide from July 29.

Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyi Adejobi, however announced in a statement that the IGP has ordered the Suspension of Enforcement Process while massive Enlightenment of Nigerian Residents was to be undertaken

Adejobi wrote in the press statement posted on his official x handle:

Following the reconfiguration and commencement of the electronic central motor registry registration process (e-CMR), the Police has deemed it necessary to highlight the benefits and effectiveness of the e-CMR initiative.

It ”is designed to ensure the safety and security of all types of vehicles including motorcycles by collating data imputed into the system by vehicle owners and acting on such to flag the vehicles if reported stolen.

The e-CMR will provide a firsthand database to the Force for curbing vehicular crimes as dedicated officers can access real-time comprehensive data of every vehicle on their tablets. Similarly, the e-CMR will prevent multiple registration of vehicles and serve as a database to collate biometric and other data of vehicle owners and individuals.

It would also add value to the national database and incident report portal generated from other Ministries, Departments and Agencies towards general security.

Furthermore, contrary to news making the round and insinuations about the e-CMR, the NPF wishes to state categorically that the e-CMR is not a revenue generating platform but an initiative to digitalize policing for effectiveness and general safety of lives and property of Nigeria residents.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has ordered an immediate suspension of the proposed enforcement of the e-CMR initially scheduled to commence on the 29th of July, 2024.

This is to give ample opportunity for mass enlightenment and education of all citizens and residents on the process, benefits and effectiveness in solving the challenge of vehicle related crimes, and protection of individual and corporate vehicle ownership.

Members of the public are urged to obtain the digitalized CMR certificate online at cmris.npf.gov.ng.

For further inquiries, individuals can contact the 24/7 hotline (02018870133), CMR Command Centre at FHQ Abuja (08117777666, 09169892000) and FHQ Annex Lagos (08117777555, 09169891000). Technical support is also available at cmrtech@npfcmr.ng.

In light of this, we seek the understanding and support of all well-meaning Nigerians and residents to key into the e-CMR system.

In the same vein, the IGP charges all Police officers to desist from requesting for e-CMR certificates as individuals found extorting or exploiting members of the public on the guise of not having e-CMR certificates will be sanctioned accordingly as the enforcement which will be done by only dedicated officers has been suspended till further notice. Police Warns Against Violent Protests, Disruption of Critical Infrastructures

As IGP Orders Deployment, Warns Against the Criminal Act of Tampering with the National Grid

    By Biola Lawal
Abuja (Flowerbudnews): The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has warned the public against staging any violent protest that could cause damage and disruption of national Infrastructures.

    Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said in a statement on Tuesday that;

Following recent moves by some groups mobilizing for a mass protest nationwide, the Nigeria Police Force reiterate that the right of citizens to protest is a right to peaceful protest only.

The Nigeria police will protect the rights of all citizens including those on peaceful protest. However, no decent society anywhere in the world will tolerate violent destruction of lives and properties in the name of a protest.

While the NPF is committed to protecting the rights of those on peaceful protest, it will not look on to see the rights of others being violated in the name of a mass protest.

Those who want to stage a peaceful protest are advised to inform the police and request for police protection. Those who do otherwise should be ready to face the full weight of the law.

Members of the public are again reminded that it is a criminal offence to tamper with the national grid or prevent/ disrupt the transmission of electricity.

It is equally unacceptable to cause disruption to any other Critical Infrastructure such as airports, hospitals and other essential services, or violent picketing in whatever magnitude.

The Nigeria Police Force, being a civil and responsive institution, committed to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety and security of all citizens, therefore warns that any attempt to disrupt critical infrastructure, which could lead to an act of economic sabotage, treasonable felony, and jeopardize national security and public safety, will not be condoned during any protest action but will be met with the full force of the law.

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has directed all Zonal Assistant Inspectors General of Police and State Command Commissioners of Police in collaboration with other security agencies to ensure robust security arrangements are in place to prevent any breakdown of law and order including strategic deployments to protect key infrastructures and ensure that protests, if any, remain peaceful and lawful.

The Police equally appeals to parents and guardians to warn their wards not to be used by disgruntled and misguided individuals who are mobilizing for violent protest with intent to create anarchy.

Such individuals are also advised to shelve their unpatriotic and clandestine plans in their own interest

We remain dedicated to upholding the rights of citizens while ensuring that public order is maintained. (Flowerbudnews)
