Third-party Insurance: Police continue on professional implementation in Enugu

    By Flowerbudnews
The Police Command in Enugu State has continued professional implementation of Third-party Motor Insurance enforcement within the state.

The professional implementation of the directive, which is led by the officer in-charge of the Command’s Motor Traffic Department (MTD), SP Innocent Omeje, is being diligently carried out along Abakaliki Road in Enugu.

Reacting to the enforcement on Saturday in Enugu, the Command’s Spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said that the exercise was part of the nationwide enforcement of the Third-Party Motor Insurance Policy.

Ndukwe said that during the exercise, several motorists were checked and found to be in possession of valid Third-Party Insurance Certificates, while some others had recently expired certificates and were advised to renew them.

He said, “However, few of the motorists were found without the certificate, leading to the impoundment of the vehicles for necessary legal action.

“The enforcement officers also sensitised motorists on the importance of obtaining their insurance policies from authentic insurance companies to ensure seamless processing of their benefits.

“Additionally, they were enlightened on the need to procure valid motor vehicle licensing documents and register for the Police Electronic Central Motor Registry (e-CMR) certificate to enhance the security of their vehicles.”

The spokesman noted that the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Kanayo Uzuegbu, had commended motorists for their understanding, cooperation and voluntary compliance with the directive, emphasising their commitment to being law-abiding citizens.

Ndukwe said that the commissioner urged them to continue cooperating with the enforcement officers and ensure that their vehicles are also registered on the Police e-CMR platform for enhanced security against theft.

The police force headquarters in Abuja has provided more details on how the wife of retired Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) Hakeem Odumosu, who was kidnapped on January 16, was rescued unharmed.

Recall that on January 16, 2025, at approximately 9:45 PM, four masked gunmen forcibly abducted Mrs. Odumosu from her Lexus Jeep outside her residence in Arepo, Ogun State.

The abduction sparked an immediate response from the anti-kidnapping unit of the Ogun State Police Command, which commenced a thorough investigation and targeted pursuit of the kidnappers.

Force Public Relations Officer Olumiyiwa Adejobi, who made this known, said that with the support of the Force Headquarters’ technical intelligence platforms, the Ogun State police operatives engaged in extensive surveillance of the creeks surrounding Arepo, gathering crucial information to track down the assailants.

Their efforts culminated in a raid on January 23, 2025, at around 06:45 AM. The intelligence-led operation took the police to a creek in the swampy area of Ikorodu, where the kidnappers were reportedly planning their next attack.

Adejobi said that upon arrival, the operatives encountered the kidnappers, who opened fire. In the ensuing confrontation, two of the gunmen were neutralized, while four others fled the scene, abandoning their operational weapons.

The victim, Mrs. Odumosu, was rescued from the swampy creeks during the operation, unharmed. She is currently undergoing medical evaluation as a precautionary measure and has since been reunited with her family.

The police also recovered four AK-47 rifles, three locally made single-barrel rifles, ammunition of various calibres, and the sum of N10,000,000 ransom previously demanded by the kidnappers, further ensuring that justice is served.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has commended the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, and his operatives for their gallantry in this successful operation.

“This operation exemplifies the dedication and resilience of our police officers.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in its mission to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes, providing safety and security to all citizens,” he said.

    By Flowerbudnews

The Inspector-General of Police, Dr Kayode Egbetokun, has directed supervisory police officers to deal commensurate and appropriately with any person who assaults any police personnel.

Egbetokun gave the directive on Friday in Enugu while addressing officers and men of Enugu State Police Command during his official two-day working visit to the Command.

“We will not tolerate any assault on our police officers; not to talk of killing police personnel. An assault on any police personnel is criminal and an assault on me, the IGP.

“For 2025, we are not going to take any kind of assault on our personnel and not talk of killing any of them.

“Anywhere there is assault or killing of any policeman, you all must respond commensurately and appropriately. We will not tolerate it anymore,” he said.

The IGP said that in 2025, there would be massive training and retraining of police personnel across board in commands, formations, squads and units.

“We are aiming at professionalism, discipline and competency this year through training and retraining of personnel,” he said.

Egbetokun said that President Bola Tinubu was committed to the welfare and well-being of police personnel.

He noted that President Tinubu always acknowledges the sacrifices police officers and men are putting to ensure security nationwide.

“President Tinubu is personally making a robust welfare package for police personnel, which I know will take care of all our welfare worries and concerns.

“However, it will remain internal with the police and not for public or press consumption,” he said.

For Enugu State Police Command, the police chief noted that he had been getting fantastic, positive and pleasing reports concerning the operational successes of the Command.

“Daily, I get a sit-rep concerning what is happening in Enugu State from the Commissioner of police. There is nothing that happens here that I do not know.

“I am quite impressed by what the Commissioner, officers and men of the Command as well as the state government and residents are doing to ensure security here.

“I am super proud of your conduct and achievements in the command, which the governor had attested to me earlier in the day,” he said.

Egbetokun noted that in 2025 the police would stamp out criminals in the state, those that had been chased away would not return and the headquarters would support the Command with all necessary resources.

“You are going to record more achievements this 2025, when we start giving additional support to the Command,” he said.

Earlier, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Kanayo Uzuegbu, appreciated the IGP for the official working visit and his fatherly support to the state Command as well as its formations, squads and units.

Uzuegbu, who rolled out the Command’s achievement in 2024, appealed to the IGP for more personnel, arms and ammunition, operational vehicles and Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) among others.
