Abuja (Flowerbudnews): President Bola Tinubu has rescheduled his official visit to Kaduna State and will travel to Benue State on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 instead.

The Proposed visit by the President is part of renewed efforts to foster peace and address the persistent conflict affecting communities in the state.

The President’s visit aims to assess firsthand the recurring crisis that has claimed numerous lives and caused significant destruction, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President, (Information and Strategy) announced in a statement on Monday.

During his stay, President Tinubu will meet with all stakeholders—including traditional rulers, political, religious, community leaders, and youth groups—to seek lasting solutions to the hostilities.

In preparation for the visit, President Tinubu has already dispatched the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Inspector General of Police, heads of intelligence agencies, the National Security Adviser, and the Chairmen of the Senate and House Defence Committees to Benue State.

The President is expected to hold a town hall meeting with all stakeholders during the visit.

President Tinubu has previously condemned the ongoing violence in Benue State and called on all leaders and residents to embrace peace, love, and mutual understanding. He extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and to all those who have suffered losses as a result of the crisis.

According to his itinerary released over the weekend, President Tinubu was scheduled to visit Kaduna State on Wednesday to commission various state government projects. However, the official visit will now occur on Thursday, June 19, 2025.

Nineteen travellers were abducted in Benue State on Thursday after bandits hijacked two commercial vehicles in Gwer West Local Government Area.

The incident was confirmed by Ter Nagi, Chief Daniel Abomtse, who spoke to journalists via phone.

According to the traditional ruler, the two vehicles involved in the attack—a Picnic bus and a Sharon bus—were carrying approximately 12 passengers each when they were intercepted.

Abomtse said that during the attack, a few individuals were spared, including an elderly woman, a breastfeeding mother with her two children, and one of the drivers.

He added that, “as of Thursday evening, the police had released the spared passengers.”

The Secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), High Level Unit, Yakubu Onu, also confirmed the abduction, stating that one of the vehicles, en route to Lokoja, carried nine passengers, six of whom were taken by the assailants.

He further revealed that the second vehicle, which was travelling from Ankpa in Kogi State to Makurdi, had eight passengers kidnapped at the same location near Naka, the Gwer West LGA headquarters.

“The driver and the three spared passengers reported to Naka police station and were told to continue their journey,” Onu said.

“They complained that they have not heard from those abducted, nor received further information about the passengers from Ankpa.”

Authorities have yet to issue a formal statement on the incident, and the fate of the kidnapped passengers remains unknown.
