The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP) has inaugurated the pioneer interim executive officers of its chapter at the Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Oyo State, marking a significant milestone in strengthening institutional partnership and staff welfare within the Polytechnic.

Speaking during the inauguration, the Vice Chairman of SSANIP, Chief Ayo Bankole, informed the Rector, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, that the association’s presence at Federal Polytechnic Ayede is aimed at fostering a cordial, enduring, and mutually beneficial relationship between the union and the institution’s management. He emphasized that modern unionism transcends agitation, noting that it is fundamentally about constructive engagement, collaboration, and supporting the progress and achievements of the institution.

Chief Bankole commended the Rector for his humility, inclusive leadership style, and administrative maturity, describing his approach as exemplary and conducive to industrial harmony.

In his welcome address, Engr. Dr. Abdul-Hameed expressed delight at receiving the SSANIP national leadership and executives, recalling similar cordial engagements with other unions, including the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP). • The Rector with a Mission: Building Skills, Shaping Futures

The Rector with a Mission: Building Skills, Shaping Futures

In the evolving landscape of Nigeria’s technical education, few leaders have demonstrated the transformative vision, professional excellence, and unwavering integrity as Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, the Pioneer Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Oyo State. Since his appointment in 2021, Dr. Abdul-Hameed has not only steered the nascent institution from modest beginnings to a flourishing center of academic innovation and entrepreneurship but has also set new benchmarks of fiscal discipline and ethical leadership that resonate across Nigeria’s educational sector.

    An Academic and Professional Powerhouse

Engr. Dr. Abdul-Hameed is a scholar and engineer of remarkable pedigree. Holding two doctoral degrees—Ph.D. in Technology Management from Obafemi Awolowo University and Ph.D. in Power Electronics from the University of Ilorin—his academic qualifications are complemented by multiple master’s degrees and a foundational B.Eng. in Electrical Engineering. A Fellow of several esteemed professional bodies such as the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (FNIEEE), and the Institute of Management Consultants (FIMC), Dr. Abdul-Hameed embodies the pinnacle of engineering professionalism and academic leadership.

His long-standing career spanning nearly three decades at the Federal Polytechnic Ede was marked by steady progression from Assistant Lecturer to Chief Lecturer, including chief academic and administrative responsibilities. Notably, his stewardship as Dean and Project Manager for critical national initiatives underscores his commitment to advancing Nigeria’s technical education.

Visionary Leadership Fuels Rapid Growth and Institutional Excellence

Under Dr. Abdul-Hameed’s dynamic leadership, the Federal Polytechnic Ayede’s growth trajectory has been nothing short of extraordinary. Starting with just four National Diploma programs in 2021, the institution now proudly boasts 13 ND offerings within four years—a clear reflection of strategic academic planning and responsiveness to Nigeria’s skill development needs.

His relentless focus on academic quality, innovation, and student empowerment extends beyond coursework. Initiatives fostering entrepreneurship, ethics, and practical skills acquisition have enriched the Polytechnic’s curriculum, dramatically enhancing graduates’ employability and entrepreneurial capacity. His vision ingeniously bridges theoretical knowledge with real-world applications to produce job creators rather than job seekers—a philosophy echoed in his advocacy at international forums, including the recent TETFund-sponsored conference in Gambia.

    Championing Integrity and Fiscal Prudence

In an era where public institution leadership is often scrutinized, Engr. Dr. Abdul-Hameed stands out as a symbol of ethical governance. The Centre for Ethics and Self-Value Orientation (CESVO) recently honored him with the prestigious Integrity Icon of Nigeria Award and applauded his exemplary fiscal discipline, confirming the Polytechnic’s status among Nigeria’s top ten corruption-free federal polytechnics.

CESVO’s commitment to training students and staff on ethics further emphasizes the ripple effect of Dr. Abdul-Hameed’s leadership, instilling values that strengthen societal trust and institutional credibility.

    Strategic Partnerships and National Recognition

Beyond internal development, Dr. Abdul-Hameed has actively forged strategic collaborations that fortify the Polytechnic’s capacity and extend its impact. The landmark MoU with the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) exemplifies his forward-thinking approach, granting access to vital infrastructure, enhancing skills acquisition, and promoting youth empowerment aligned with Nigeria’s broader employment goals.

His visionary leadership earned him multiple accolades in 2025, such as the “Pioneer Leader in Technical Education” and “Best Rector of the Year” awards. The Life Value Awareness and Leadership Secure Initiative (LIVALSI) crowned him the Face of Living Hero of the Academic World, celebrating his contributions as a role model of integrity, innovation, and leadership in Nigerian education.

    Driving Innovation and Student Engagement

Dr. Abdul-Hameed also champions innovation within and beyond the classroom. He has supported projects such as the development of a 3D printing machine by Polytechnic staff, signaling a commitment to cutting-edge research and commercialization of technology. His encouragement of extracurricular activities, including the highly competitive Rector’s Cup Football Tournament, nurtures student talent, unity, and holistic development.

Furthermore, under his stewardship, the Polytechnic’s Centre for Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (CSAED) secured accreditation by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), reinforcing Federal Polytechnic Ayede as a leading hub for vocational training and economic empowerment.

A Leader Who Inspires Future Generations

Behind Dr. Abdul-Hameed’s impressive professional portfolio is a man grounded in values. His dedication to nurturing not just institutions but also people remains evident in his accessible leadership style and commitment to mentorship.

As Federal Polytechnic Ayede continues to rise as a citadel of technical education and innovation, it is unmistakably the legacy and leadership of Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed (FNSE) that light the path forward—shaping futures, building capacity, and embodying the highest ideals of academic and ethical excellence.

In a rapidly changing Nigeria, where the future rests on knowledge, skills, and integrity, Engr. Dr. Abdul-Hameed stands as an academic titan—a visionary Rector whose work profoundly impacts education, youth empowerment, and national development. His story is not just about leading an institution; it is about inspiring a nation and the whole world at large.
