Kaduna: The Kaduna State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Usman Bawa, has condemned the latest kidnapping in Millennium City in Kaduna.
Bawa expressed sadness over the reported Monday abduction of four persons by suspected kidnappers at Rahusa Estate, Millennium City.
According to a statement on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Yusuf Idris, the Monday incident occurred barely one week after an attack on Babban Saura PW community, where one person was killed.
He said other residents were also abducted during the attack and remained in the custody of their captors.
Bawa said residents of Millennium City and other parts of Kaduna continued to live in fear because of persistent insecurity.
He said residents could no longer freely access their farms, travel safely or sleep peacefully in their homes.
The PDP candidate commended security personnel for risking their lives while confronting kidnappers and other criminal elements across the state.
He urged the state government to demonstrate stronger leadership and decisive action against insecurity.
Bawa called for immediate deployment of additional security personnel to Millennium City and other vulnerable communities in affected areas.
He also urged the government to collaborate with estate associations to provide streetlights, patrol vehicles and emergency communication lines.
He called for the swift and safe rescue of victims abducted from Rahusa Estate and those still held by their captors.
Bawa further advocated establishing or deploying security outfits in soft-target communities and adequately equipping vigilante groups, including the Kaduna Vigilance Service (KADVIS).
He said Kaduna could not achieve security through press statements, but through deliberate, inclusive and sustained action.
Bawa pledged that a PDP administration under his proposed “People Agenda” would make community security a foundation of governance.
He said the approach would ensure that every citizen became part of the state’s security architecture.
“This is one attack too many. Our people deserve better,” Bawa said.
In another development, Bawa has mourned the death of Malam Nafi’u Baba Ahmed, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria.
Bawa described the death of Baba Ahmed as a great loss to Nigeria, Islam and humanity.
Bawa said the deceased’s life was marked by dedicated service to Islam and humanity.
He said Baba Ahmed would be remembered for his uprightness, wisdom and commitment to the cause of Islam and service to humanity.
The PDP candidate said Nigeria had lost one of its great minds and patriots whose contributions would remain significant.
He extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, praying Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest.(NAN)
