- ANLCA seeks stronger collaboration to improve trading environment
Lagos, Sept. 29, 2026, The President of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Mr Emenike Nwokeoji, has called for stronger collaboration among government agencies and stakeholders to improve Nigeria’s trading environment.
Nwokeoji made the call in while delivering his welcome address at the 72th anniversary of the association held in on Tuesday in Lagos with the Theme “The role of Licensed Customs Agents in National Economic Development.
He said that the customs agents should not be viewed merely as persons clearing goods at the ports.
“They play a wider role in facilitating international trade and supporting businesses,” he said.
According to him, licensed customs agents serve as a vital link between businesses and government procedures.
“They help importers, exporters and manufacturers understand and comply with relevant regulations,” he said.
He said that their activities also contributed to government revenue, employment creation and movement of goods through ports and borders.
The ANLCA president noted that development of Nigeria’s trading system could not be achieved by one group alone.
He stressed the need for cooperation among customs agents, government agencies, importers, exporters, manufacturers, transport operators and other stakeholders.
He emphasised the importance of technology in improving trade procedures.
“Digital systems reduce unnecessary paperwork, improve information sharing and make transactions easier to monitor,” he said.
Nwokeoji called for continued improvements in systems designed to make legitimate trade faster, clearer and more efficient.
He acknowledged challenges faced by traders, including delays, unclear procedures and unnecessary costs.
“Such challenges affect businesses and consumers,” he said.
He urged licensed customs agents to maintain professionalism and integrity by understanding laws guiding their profession and cooperating with institutions.
“The future of Nigeria’s trade depends largely on partnership, transparency and willingness of stakeholders to embrace reforms that improve the business environment,” he said.
Nwokeoji said ANLCA remained committed to contributing meaningfully to economic growth and national development through its role in international trade.
He called on stakeholders to strengthen cooperation, embrace technology and support measures that make legitimate trade easier while protecting revenue and creating jobs.
