ECTS: Customs urges stakeholders to embrace cargo tracking system
Lagos, July 28, 2026,  The Port and Terminal Multiservices Ltd. (PTML) Customs Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has urged stakeholders to embrace the Electronic Cargo Tracking System (ECTS) to enhance cargo security, trade facilitation and revenue assurance.
The Customs Area Controller, PTML command, Comptroller Nura Miko, made the call on Tuesday at a sensitisation workshop on the deployment of the ECTS held in Lagos.
Miko said PTML was selected as the second pilot command for the initiative after its successful implementation at the Apapa Area Command, describing the move as part of the service’s ongoing modernisation and digitalisation drive.
The comptroller said the system would replace the traditional physical escort of cargo in transit to bonded terminals, other Customs commands and Free Trade Zones.

He noted that increasing trade volumes had made the practice unsustainable.
According to him, the ECTS would enable real-time cargo monitoring, detect route deviations and seal tampering, curb cargo diversion, optimise manpower deployment and enhance revenue collection through improved cargo visibility.
He added that stakeholders would benefit from faster cargo clearance, reduced logistics costs, improved transparency and enhanced security.
Miko urged stakeholders to support the initiative in ensuring its successful implementation.
