No fewer than nine (9) staff of the University of Calabar, teaching and Non-teaching, have found themselves at the wrong end of the Institution’s disciplinary rod for sundry offences.
Eight of the affected staff have been dismissed from the services of the University while one is to have his promotion delayed for two promotional years, a statement by the Public Relations Unit of the University disclosed.
According to a memo signed by the University Registrar, Dr. Mrs. Icha Chukwuka, the decision was taken at the 174th Meeting of the University’s Governing Council, upon deliberating on the report of disciplinary cases presented to it.
The Registrar, who is also the Secretary of Council, states in the Memo that, Prof. Emilia Oyira of the Department of Nursing Science is dismissed from the service of the University over alleged cases of examination misconduct.
Others include, Mr. Ukachukwu Echezunachi Darlington – Department of Chemical Pathology, Mrs. Akinrinade Opayemi Ogunluyi – Department of Microbiology, Dr. Arum Priscilia Nchekwube – Department of Internal Medicine, and Mrs. Okoi Nyesam Eni – Clinical Medical Hostel, all dismissed over alleged absence and abandonment of duty.
Also dismissed are, Mr. Joseph Edet Okon of Works Department over allegations of vandalization and carting away armoured cables and Mr. Eworo Valentine Ibor of the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry, dismissed over allegations of falsification and alteration of examination results.
This is even as Mr. Emmanuel Adariku of the Unical Alumni Relations Office is dismissed for a case of unauthorized withdrawal of funds from ‘The Friends of Malabor/Alumni Trust Funds’ account, while Dr. Mathias Agba of the Department of Nursing Science is to face delayed promotion for two promotional years, including forfeiture of 50% of his withheld salary for his culpability in the case of Negligence of duty in respect of alleged examination misconduct.
The University Management continues to reiterate its zero tolerance to all forms of unethical practices even as the Prof. Offiong Efanga Offiong’s led administration remains resolute in his determination to rebrand the institution on a foundation of ‘integrity and excellence in service delivery’.
