The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Keffi chapter, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to confirm Dr Usman Kana as the substantive Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Keffi.
The NYCN Chairman in Keffi Local Government Area, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, made the appeal in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday in Keffi.
Idris said Kana, who was appointed acting Medical Director of the health institution on May 6, was the most qualified among those vying for the position.
According to him, Kana’s vast knowledge and experience in the health sector make him well-suited to lead the medical centre.
He described Kana as an accomplished Consultant Physician and Pulmonologist with over 20 years of experience in clinical practice, medical administration and public health response within Nigeria’s tertiary healthcare system.
“Dr Kana is a fellow of the West African College of Physicians with extensive expertise in internal medicine, respiratory medicine, infectious diseases management and hospital administration.
“He demonstrated capacity in clinical governance, institutional leadership, epidemic response coordination and strategic healthcare management, including services as acting Medical Director of Federal Medical Centre Keffi, on several occasions.”
He stressed the need to avoid undue delay in confirming Kana’s appointment.
“This is in line with President Tinubu’s pledge to select the best minds to drive the nation’s health sector,” he said.
Idris also commended the Tinubu administration for its healthcare reforms and investments.
He said the administration had made significant investments in malaria prevention, treatment and vaccination aimed at reducing the burden of the disease, particularly among children under five. (NAN)
