Lagos (FLOWERBUDNEWS): Nigerian Artisans are poised for major economic empowerment boost as BACSAAN, the umbrella body of artisans has begun discussions with the conglomerate – CHAMS Group on ways to make the handwork professionals prosperous.

Speaking at a preliminary interactive meeting on Wednesday in Lagos, between BACSAAN and the CHAMS/Smartcity, BACSAAN National President, Haj Fasasi Mohammed Jamiu expressed the need for evolution of long-term modern economic opportunities for artisans.

Fasasi, who was represented at the meeting by the BACSAAN National Director of Operations, Haj Isiaq Robiu and the Association’s National Director of Communications, Strategy and Media, Hon. Biola Lawal, said that artisans needed support to break the stigma of being downtrodden.

He stressed that most of the artisans had capacity to transform their handwork skills into modern trades with appropriate technological backups and updating.

The BACSAAN National President appealed to the Chairman of CHAMS and Smartcity, Sir (Dr.) Demola Aladekomo, who was represented at the meeting by Damola Adekola General Manager, IDENTICO Integrated Services Ltd, a Subsidiary of CHAMS utilise his wealth of experience and phylantropism to help Nigerian artisans break the shackles of poverty and deprivation.

‘:We are well organised and have members officials in all the 36 states of the federation and in the federal Capital Territory. We also have coordinators for the six geopolitical zones, all in the efforts to draw attention to the plight of the nation’s skilled artisans and get them help ” Fasasi stated.

He disclosed that members of BACSAAAN included welders, rewires, bricklayers/masons, Tailors, POP makers, Hairdressers, Barbers, mechanics, carpenters, plumbers, electricians, shoemakers among others.

Responding on behalf of Sir (Dr.) Demola Aladekomo, Damola Adekola, General Manager, IDENTICO Integrated Services Ltd, a Subsidiary CHAMS said that with the impending collaboration between BACSAAN and CHAMS/SMARTCITY, a new vista of hope and prosperity would open for Nigerian artisans.

The collaboration aligns with national goals on job creation, skills development, and digital economy growth, particularly among Nigeria’s informal sector which employs millions of citizens, Adekola stated, adding;

Adekola assured that CHAMS would be coming into the envisaged partnership as a tech company to ”step in to improve the capacity and capabilities of the artisans, using different AI.

”We in CHAMS/SMARTCITY are here to assist you through empowerment in technology-backed practices and innovations to make professional handworks of your artisans members more lucrative, modern and enhanced,” Adekola assured

The parley agreed to hold a more high-level discussion in early 2026 on specific areas to be explored to boost the planned economic empowerment for artisans (FLOWERBUDNEWS)
