Abuja (FLOWERBUDNEWS): The leadership of Nigerian Artisans under the umbrella of the Builders, Construction and Skilled Artisans Association of Nigeria (BACSAAN) have been formally invited as stakeholders to the 14th meeting of National Council on Lands, Housing and Urban Development ( NCLHUD).
BACSAAN members, potentially estimated at about 25 million, include bricklayers, Electricians, Plumbers, welders, Capenters, POP makers. Tilers. Mechanics, Rewires, Tailors, Vulcanisers, Hairdressers, Shoe Makers, Barbers among others.
The high-level national meeting is scheduled to hold in Ilorin from January 19 to 23rd with the theme; Achieving Housing Delivery and Sustainable Cities Through Effective Land Management, Urban Renewal, Promotion of Local Building Materials, and Public-Private Partnerships in Nigeria.

In the formal letter of invitation to BACSAAN National President, Haj Fasasi Mohammed Jamiu, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Housing. Lands and Urban Development, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, requested BACSAAN to prepare and submit a memoranda ”in line with the theme of the Council Meeting and the Status Report on the Implementation of the Key Decisions reached at the 13th meeting in Gombe”.
The Permanent Secretary emphasised the need for the BACSAAN leadeship to attend the Council as a stakeholder, saying; ”it is imperative to note that your attendance will not only enrich the discussions, but also contribute to the formulation of effective policies and strategies aimed at addressing Nigeria’s housing deficit and fostering sustainable urban development.’:.

The Meeting of National Council on Lands, Housing and Urban Development is the highest policy advisory body in the nation’s housing sector.
According to Dr. Belgore. the meeting ‘:is also expected to be attended by Commissioners for Lands, Housing and Urban Development from the States of the Federation, Permanent Secretaries, Directors, State Surveyors-General, Professional Regulatory Bodies, the Academia. Military and Paramilitary Organisations and Key Stakeholders in the built environment.’:
Commenting on BACSAAN’s expected participation at the meeting, Haj Fasasi said that the Association was already working on memeranda to be submitted to the meeting with a focus on how to further enhance realisation of President Tinubu’s plan and efforts to provide affordable and decent housing for Nigerians.

The BACSAAN National President said that the Association would also raise the issue of effective tackling of the menace of collapsing buildings, which he stressed, had caused the deaths of scores of ariisans over the years.
”With President Tinubu’s resolve and current efforts to provide affordable houses for Nigerians nationwide, BACSAAN is determined to assist by utilising its highly skilled members to ensure that high quality materials are utilised in the construction of the buildings,’: Fasasi declared.
He disclosed that BACSAAN had participated effectively in the 2024 Meeting of the National Council Meeting on Lands, Housing and Urban Development.
