A coalition of youth groups in Zamfara State has called on Governor Dauda Lawal to return to the state and focus on addressing the escalating security challenges following his recent expulsion from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The appeal was made on Wednesday by Hon. Maidamma Maigadaje, chairman of the Coalition for Peace and Stability in Zamfara, during an interview in Gusau.
Maigadaje expressed concern that the governor’s attention to political matters may be diverting focus from pressing security issues.
He emphasized that the 2027 election season remains distant, and urged Governor Lawal to concentrate on development, security enhancement, and improving social services, particularly in rural communities facing banditry, poverty, and limited access to healthcare.
Maigadaje highlighted challenges faced by security agencies in coordinating with the state government and called for stronger support and engagement to ensure effective intelligence sharing and operations.
The coalition also commended the efforts of troops under Operation Fantsan Yamma for sustaining security operations in areas affected by banditry, despite limited resources.
Governor Lawal’s recent expulsion from the PDP was part of broader disciplinary actions taken by a faction of the party aligned with the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike.
