Abuja (FLOWERBUDNEWS): The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Mohammed Ali Pate has commended NAFDAC Director General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye for introducing three landmark initiatives designed to effectively safeguard the health of women and children in Nigeria.
Prof. Pate gave the commendation in Abuja on Tuesday while speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the formal unfolding and launching of the initiatives, which included Maternal Newborn Child Health and Nutrition (MNCH&N);
Other initiatives launched were; NAFDAC Office for Women and Child Health (NOWCH) and National Action Plan on Prevention, Detection, and Response to Substandard and Falsified Medical Products (2023–2027).
Prof. Pate noted that the initiatives were timely and in line with the federal government’s commitment to safeguard the lives of children by drastically reducing maternal and child mortality.
The Minister stressed that NAFDAC efforts and focus on children nutrition in the initiatives were highly commendable as proper children nutrition was a necessity to which the present administration was committed.
Also speaking during the launching ceremony, the Chairman of the NAFDAC Governing Council, Dr. Mansur Kabir hailed Prof. Adeyeye for conceiving and developing the three landmark initiatives which, he noted, would ensure that the health of women and the nation’s children were fully safeguarded.
The United Nations Children Fund, (UNICEF) Chief of Nutrition, Hajeebhoy, also commended Prof . Adeyeye for the unique initiatives, noting that UNICEF had enjoyed a very robust relationship with NAFDAC and is impressed with the remarkable progress the Agency had recorded in safeguarding the health of Nigerian citizens.
Representative of Gate Foundation, Mrs Diallo Rodio, commended Prof. Adeyeye for her efforts to promote local production of medicines as practical means of making healthcare more affordable to the citizenry.
Highlights of the event include presentation on the activities and functions of the various Directorates of NAFDAC
