UNICAL VC Lauds SSANU’s Commitment to Strengthening Academic System

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar(Unical), Prof. Florence Banku Obi, has lauded the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) for its tireless efforts in strengthening the academic system.

Prof. Obi made the remarks at the South-South Zonal Executive Council(ZEC) meeting of SSANU held at the University’s Senate Chambers.

Represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Tony Eyang, the Vice Chancellor commended SSANU for its dedication to creating a better academic environment, and urged the association to remain steadfast in its pursuit of excellence, despite the challenges between the government and the academic sector.

She noted that SSANU’s commitment to the academic system is commendable, adding that, the association plays a vital role in shaping the future of the complexities of the academic system.

Prof. Obi also praised the efforts of SSANU in organizing the event, addy that, the university values the contributions of its staff and will continue to support their growth and development.

The Vice Chancellor assured the attendees of a serene academic environment and the university’s readiness to support the growth of its staff.

“We will create an atmosphere for people to build their careers,” she said, emphasizing the university’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for its staff to thrive.

The Chairman of SSANU, Unical Branch, Comr. Otu Emmanuel noted that SSANU remains committed to working with university managements to achieve set goals and objectives.

Comr. Emmanuel emphasized the importance of unity among members and urged everyone to work together to achieve their goals.

The SSANU Chairman highlighted the challenges facing the academic sector and urged the government to take concrete steps to address them.

He noted that SSANU will continue to advocate for the rights and interests of its members and work towards creating a better academic environment.

He emphasized the importance of solidarity and unity among members and encouraged everyone to support one another in their quest for excellence.

The National Deputy President of SSANU, Comr (Dr) Leku Ador in his remarks at the occasion commended Unical for what he described as a beautiful outing.

Dr. Ador restated what he always says at every forum, ‘the need for all the unions in the University to unite in the pursuit of their agitations’.

The National Vice President, South-South Zone of SSANU, Comr. Cheta Azumah said the Union looks forward to activities that will enhance the University.

Comr. Azumah appreciated the management of the institution for a conducive environment to operate.

Comr Alex Oko of NAAT, Comr Peter Ubi of ASUU(represented), and Comr. Victoria Orok of NASU delivered solidarity messages.

The Secretary of SSANU UCB, Comr. Pius Emmanuel on behalf of the Unical chapter commended all who attended the event.

The highlight of the event was the conferment of awards on the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi.

Also conferred with awards are the Registrar, Dr. (Mrs) Chukwuka Icha, Comr. Mohammed Ibrahim, Dr. Leku Ador, Comr. Cheta Azumah, Dr. John Owan, Dr. Virginia Ironbar and late Barr. John Odey amongst others.
