CP embarks on rural patrol in Enugu, reiterates commitment to fighting crime

The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mr Mamman Giwa, on Saturday, led a comprehensive rural security patrol of communities within Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area.

Speaking to journalists after the patrol, the commissioner said that the exercise was part of ongoing efforts to enhance security in rural communities.


He said that it was meant to boost confidence among the residents as well as security personnel within the general area of Uzo-Uwani council general area.

According to him, we did a comprehensive patrol of Nimbo, Opanda, Adani, Ogurugu, and Nkpologu communities in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area and reiterated our resolve to keep every area in the safe and secured.

“This patrol is aimed to boost the confidence of rural residents, deter criminal activities and strengthen synergy among security agencies operating in the area,” he said.

During the exercise, Giwa visited both the temporary and permanent sites of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Madueke located in the area.


The Commander of the Naval Base, Commodore A. O. Odejobi, warmly received the Commissioner and actively joined him in the patrol.

They were also accompanied in the patrol by the Chairman of Uzo-Uwani LGA, Chief Uzugwu Chijioke.

“We are also reaffirming the unwavering resolve of the Police and other security agencies to intensify collaborative efforts in tackling criminal elements, particularly those involved in violent crimes.

“We are assuring residents, especially those in rural areas of the continued commitment of security forces in Enugu State to ensuring their safety and overall security,” he added.

Accompanying the commissioner included: Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr Gregory Itobore, Head of the Command’s Operations Department; and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr Idowu Moroof, who is the Commanding Officer, 3 Police Mobile Force (PMF), Enugu.

Others are: Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr Suraju Oyewole, Head of the State Intelligence Department (SID); Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr Stephen Gudu, who is Nsukka Police Area Commander; and other senior police officers.
