Commenting on the audited accounts, the Permanent Secretary however, counseled the Auditor-General of Osun State, Alh. Kolapo Idris to undertake intensive public enlightenment to disseminate the truth about the transparency, honesty and prudence of the Adeleke administration.

Alh. Akibu Ibrahim was particularly concerned about the misinformation being peddled about Osun state external debt, in view of the fact the Governor Adeleke Administration has not borrowed any money to run the government, or finance its numerous projects since its inception.

Responding, the Auditor-General, Alh. Idris confirmed that the Adeleke administration had not borrowed any money since it came onboard.

He explained that the seeming increase in the naira equivalent of the inherited external debt was due to the fallen value of naira.

Alh. Idris assured that the relevant authorities, including the office of the accountant-general would undertake more sensitisation of the citizenry on the prudence and transparency of the Adeleke administration in financial management.

Earlier, Idris had assured attendees that the financial statements for the year ending 31 December 2023, presented in the report, accurately reflected the financial activities and state of affairs of Osun State. He also pledged to address any inquiries arising from the report.

FLOWERBUDNEWS reports that the event, which was attended by officials including the chairman of the Osun State House of Assembly Public Accounts Committee, Bamidele Lawal, civil society representatives, and labour leaders, provided an opportunity for stakeholders to scrutinise the state’s financial records.
