Enugu:  The Enugu State Fire Service, on Monday, celebrated restoration of water supply after four years of operating without water supply in its main office in Enugu.

The Director, Enugu State Fire Service, Mr Okwudiri Ohaa, who led the celebration in a viral video, told newsmen in Enugu that Gov. Peter Mbah had made the job of fire-fighting simpler in the state.

Ohaa explained that water and its availability remained the most important commodity in the business of fire-fighting.

He said that water running profusely in our headquarters today is “a bold statement that Gov. Mbah is a promise keeper”.

He said that soon the service would also revive its various water hydrates located in strategic locations within Enugu metropolis and its outskirts; where its fire-fighting trucks and tanks can get water easily and quick.

According to him, earlier today, we at the Enugu State Fire Service experienced an astonishing development – our taps are finally flowing with forceful water.

He said: “This incredible news fills us with immense gratitude towards His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Dr Peter Mbah, for delivering on his promise.

“In just 110 days in office, Gov. Mbah has already brought about significant changes.

“The presence of water in our office is a game-changer, sparing us the hassle of constantly visiting the state’s work office to fetch water.

“As you can imagine, water is essential to the Fire Service, and we cannot express enough how truly grateful we are to the governor for turning our dreams into reality.”

Ohaa, who is also the Chief Safety and Rescue Officer of the state, said this remarkable milestone was a reminder that “our tomorrow is here”.

“We salute Gov. Mbah and his team for their unwavering dedication to improving the lives of Enugu State residents even as we continue to witness the positive transformations happening in our beloved state,” he said. (Flowerbudnews)

  • ‘How to cure headache with water’

‘How to cure headache with water’

A doctor, Dr. Kunal Sood, has revealed a hack that can help you get rid of your pounding headache — and it has ‘no side effects’.

Dr. Sood is a board-certified acute and chronic pain doctor who resides in Germantown, Maryland.

He frequently shares tips on his TikTok channel, where he boasts more than 1.9 million followers.

Most recently, Dr. Sood revealed how soaking your feet in hot water can help relieve you of any pain. And it is without any of the same side effects that medication may leave you with.

In a viral clip, which has so far amassed more than 3.1 million views, he explained why the hack worked.

The health expert duetted another user’s videos, in which the latter put her feet in hot water.

“If you suffer from migraine headaches, here’s a hack to try that has zero side effects and may help — soaking your feet in hot water, but why exactly does this help?” he said at the beginning of the video.

He explained that the hot water helped to ‘dilate the blood vessels’ in your feet, which meant that blood would be released from your head.

When the blood is pulled away from your head, it will lower the pain you are feeling.

“This will dilate the blood vessels in your feet, pulling blood away from your head

It will ease the pressure on the blood vessels causing your migraine.

This will in turn decrease your pain,” Dr. Kunal Sood laid out the headache cure. DailyMail

BREAKING: UAE lifts visa ban on Nigerians as Tinubu secures landmark deal across sectors

PRESIDENT Bola Ahmed Tinubu and President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on Monday in Abu Dhabi, have finalized a historic agreement, which has resulted in the immediate cessation of the visa ban placed on Nigerian travelers.

Furthermore, by this historic agreement, both Etihad Airlines and Emirates Airlines are to immediately resume flight schedules into and out of Nigeria, without any further delay.

As negotiated between the two Heads of State, this immediate restoration of flight activity, through these two airlines and between the two countries, does not involve any immediate payment by the Nigerian government.

In recognition of President Tinubu’s economic development diplomacy drive and proposals today presented by President Tinubu to his counterpart, an agreed framework has been established, which will involve several billions of U.S. dollars worth of new investments into the Nigerian economy across multiple sectors, including defense, agriculture and others, by the investment arms of the Government of the United Arab Emirates.

Ajuri Ngelale, media aide to Tinubu, in a release said that “Additionally, President Tinubu is pleased to have successfully negotiated a joint, new foreign exchange liquidity programme between the two Governments, which will be announced in detail in the coming weeks.”

  • NERC launches power outage reporting app

NERC launches power outage reporting app

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has developed an application that will help citizens lodge complaints about power outages and disruptions across the country.

Sanusi Garba, the NERC chairperson, while speaking during the app’s launch in Abuja on Monday, said the initiative is in line with the commission’s pledge to improve service delivery to customers.

I think a lot of you can recall that we recently launched a new consumer protection regulation that provides timelines within which public utilities, and especially distribution companies (DisCos), are required to resolve complaints by customers,” Garba said.

“So, this particular app that we have launched today is supposed to assist the commission in monitoring that DisCos are actually complying with the standards set out in that regulation.”

He disclosed that the app was originally developed to sample the quality of power supply, adding that the NERC decided that it was better to have live data and effectively monitor DisCos.

The NERC chairperson encouraged Nigerians to channel their complaints through the app, assuring that prompt responses will increase their confidence in the commission and the DisCos.

“We decided to start this launch with Abuja. There’ll be a national rollout for all distribution companies,” he said.

“Such a massive application would require some test run and so on.

“So, AEDC is like a guinea pig for the app but we’ll quickly expedite the rollout to other distribution companies but obviously the DisCos where we are having the highest level of complaints will be ranked higher in terms of the rollout.”

Christopher Ezeafulukwe, chairperson of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), lauded the commission for the inauguration of the app, saying it was a product of collaboration that would ensure a win-win scenario for all citizens.

I dare say feedback from our customers is actually for the distribution company, what I would call our feedstock,” Ezeafulukwe said.

It is the raw material that we need to be able to deliver the services that we actually contract to provide.

“One big takeaway is that the app we’re about to launch is a product of collaboration between the commission, the distribution company, and eventually the customers.

“It then implies that it’s going to be a win-win for all of us.

“On the part of the regulator, it’s already been said that it will be greater oversight and not just oversight for oversight sake but to ensure that value is not just being created but being sustained and protected.

On the part of the distribution company, this will actually help catalyse more data-based decisions.”

    The usage of the app

Speaking on the app’s functionality, Aisha Mahmud, NERC commissioner of consumer affairs, said the commission partnered with the DisCos on it.

Mahmud said data on hours of supply to customers on each service band, in a bid to protect users, was received.

“It utilises multi-channel approach. We liaised with the different distribution companies and obtained a lot of data on their customers,” she said.

“So if you’re a customer of a DisCo and you are being supplied by the DisCo, your information is already stored in that app.

If you have a complaint on any outage, there are multiple channels. There is a web app and a mobile app, so you can download it on your phone through Apple or Google store. You just need your meter number.

“You download the app, you put your meter number and then after that, you log in your complaint and the app will automatically send a confirmation to the customers on that particular feeder of yours to find out if there is really an outage.

“If there is, then we need about two to three customers to confirm that there is an outage on that feeder.

“As soon as they confirm that, the app will send that confirmation to the DisCo with a resolution timeline and as soon as the DisCo resolves this complaint, then the DisCo will update the app saying ‘we’ve resolved this complaint’ and the app will automatically send another confirmation request to those customers on that particular feeder.”

  • Story About Contract Inflation, Variation At FCTA/FCDA False – Investigation

Story About Contract Inflation, Variation At FCTA/FCDA False – Investigation

A Social media post trended recently about alleged illegal variations and inflation of some contracts of the FCTA/FCDA.

Our correspondent took time out to investigate the allegations contained in the Social media post. Credible sources in the FCTA/FCDA provided useful information which proved that the allegations were false and misleading.

Our correspondent gives a point by point explanation on each of the allegations below:

    1. The Project referred to in Gaduwa is presumed to be the contract for the Emergency Rehabilitation/Improvement of Access Road to Nigeria Centre for Disease Control Laboratory in Gaduwa District. The contract was awarded to M/s CBC Global Civil & Building Construction Company Nigeria Limited at the sum of N2,493,389,942.88.

As the name implies it was an emergency contract due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and the need to quickly access the facilities for testing and treatment of infected persons. The scope of work comprises, Roadworks, Surface Water Drainage, Culverts and River Training. It is 2.4km long asphaltic concrete road. The project was completed on schedule and payment made in full.

The assertions of the author is therefore false.

    2. On the issues of the contracts awarded at 10 Billion naira and later jacked up to N119 billion, no such contract exists in FCDA.

    3. “Awarded Contract of N50 Billion later jacked up to N200 Billion” – FCTA/FCDA sources say this is strange to them and believed to be the figment of imagination of the writer.

    4. “Award of contract of N6 Billion and later jacked up toN70 Billion”, Our sources in the FCTA/FCDA also revealed that they do not have such contract.

    5. “Awarded Emergency Maintenance of Usman Dam at the cost of N9 Billion and paid in full without any BOQ and so many procurement infractions”.

Our credible sources revealed categorically that it is not true.

According to them, currently, the nature of works at the site demands emergency attention due to the fact that it can result to disruption of water supply to the city.

More so some of the Eletro-mechanical components required will have to be imported, so the procurement process is ongoing.

“But as we speak there is no payment yet on the works”, the source said.

    6. “Left debt of over N1.2 Trillion to FCT without anything to show” – Our sources revealed that debts owed contractors working for the FCT Administration were debts accruing over a period of more than 20 years, spanning through several administrations and not wholly incurred during the last administration.

    6. “Approval of green areas to residential houses and Converting Residential Houses in Wuse 2, Maitama Gana Street, Garki into Commercial in contrary to the Abuja Master Plan”. It was confirmed that the FCT / FCDA at no time condoled the abuse of the Master Plan. “However, if there is any infringement known to the Authority, necessary actions are always taken to correct such violations

Niger military deploys forces at Beninese border against ECOWAS invasion [Video]

A video has emerged indicating that the Niger republic’s coupists have started deploying military along its border with neighbouring country, Benin, amidst imminent military intervention by the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS.

The development was disclosed by a counter-insurgency expert and security analyst in Lake Chad, Zagazola Makama.

It was reported that ECOWAS had threatened a possible military action against the junta who seized power in Niger and suspended the constitution.

Last month, ECOWAS ordered its standby force to restore constitutional order in the Republic of Niger.

The order followed the resolution of ECOWAS on the Niger coup after its extraordinary meeting in Abuja.

However, the regional bloc’s army is yet to invade Niger.

Makama on his social media platform X, on Monday, posted a video that showed Niger’s military were deploying at Beninese border in preparation against the military intervention by the ECOWAS.
