This She noted, would assist the efforts to stop to the embarrassment that rejection of food exports from Nigeria more often than not, brought to the country and the huge losses incurred by the exporters.

She noted that NAFDAC efforts were in line with the Federal Government policy on diversifying the economy through the non-oil export sector and with the policy initiative on the Presidential Enabling Business Executive Council (PEBEC),

Prof Adeyeye pointed out that NAFDAC was one of the key drivers of the noble initiative had stepped up its processes and procedures towards ensuring that all NAFDAC Regulated Products meant for Export meet the required standard acceptable at national and international markets especially with the specifications of buying country

She disclosed that this was now being done through an improved process of Documentation, Laboratory analysis, Inspection, Registration and Certification before products are exported.

The meeting with freight forwarders, freight consolidators, and clearing agents Freight Consolidators in export business was a follow-up to the one the Agency had with Pre-shipment Agents about a month ago.

The Director General,  who was represented by the Head, Export Division, Ports Inspection Directorate of NAFDAC, Mrs. Oluwaseyi Sanwo-olu, called on the export stakeholders of the Agency regulated products for effective collaboration with the regulatory authority to complement its robust regulatory policies geared toward understanding the NAFDAC export processes.

The main objective was collaboration to safeguard a unified exportation procedure and zero rejects of Nigeria export products.

NAFDAC as a Governmental Agency was established by its Enabling Act Cap N1 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (LFN) 2004 which empowers the Agency as the competent authority in Nigeria, charged with the responsibility of regulating and controlling the manufacture, importation, exportation, distribution, advertisement, sale, and use of food, drug, chemicals, and other regulated products.

Prof Adeyeye noted that the regulatory policy of the agency was geared towards the protection of consumers and promoting public health, by ensuring that regulated products were of good quality, safe, efficacious, wholesome, and accepted in the global market.

”We recognize and appreciate the role of each of the Export Facilitation Stakeholders namely: (Consolidators, freight forwarders, clearing agents, members of the Association of Nigeria Customs Licensed Agents, National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF),Association of Nigeria licensed custom Agent (ANCLA),” She stated.

According to the NAFDAC boss, the following are the Agencys expectations from Consolidators of its regulated products.
Freight Consolidators should be well informed on the nature of the products they are handling and how to keep the products integrity intact.
Guide their clients (exporters) to always factor in, time for processing of export certification in their timeline before planning the next exportation.

Comply with documentation requirements for NAFDAC regulated products before shipment.
Have a requisite understanding of quality, safety and standards of regulated product or consignment they are handling.

A good understanding of proper handling, use of approved packaging material, group-packaging of like products.

Understand the implication of forwarding and exporting products without recourse to NAFDAC processes and procedures.

She said they must always avoid cross-contamination of products (e.g., food products, cosmetics, chemicals), adding that cool temperature that does not allow microbes to grow must be maintained.

Prof Adeyeye urged them to use quality finished and raw material, adding that they should also ensure that personnel handling processes are medically fit to avoid contamination.

She added that NAFDACs door is opened to trade, we encourage and support trade, adding that the NAFDAC Export certification channel is Customer friendly, easy to operate and timely.
According to her, the Agencys leverage is on the commitment to achieve zero export reject.

She said the Agency is sensitive to the peculiarity of export consignment at the MMIA and is willing to guide the erring exporters as well as streamline export requirements for such consignments hence the reason for relocating the Export Division of PID in NAFDAC to the newly built NAFDACs NAHCO at MMIA for easy accessibility to exporters of such consignments.

Prof Adeyeye noted that the Agency acknowledges the importance of having broader and deeper Interactions and collaborations with sister agencies such as Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON), Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS), Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Nigeria Custom Service (NCS) etc.

It is worth noting that all exported products that went through NAFDAC export certification process have never been rejected, she said. (Flowerbudnews)

  • We won’t enforce anyone to adopt our religious traditions, El-Zakzaky says

We won’t enforce anyone to adopt our religious traditions, El-Zakzaky says

The Leader of the Islamic Movement, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky (H), has said that the group would not enforce anyone from adopting their own religious traditions and belief.

El-Zakzay made the remark on Tuesday in a statement signed by Sheikh Sidi Munir Mainasara on behalf of the Islamic group in Abuja.

The statement, titled: “Arbaeen Commemoration: Why We Trek,” said that the Muslims, across the world, identify with the family members of the Holy Prophet(S) through the Arbaeen trek, and in answer to the call and cause of Imam Husain (AS) in Karbala.

“Today, not only in Nigeria or other places, but in Karbala, this Arbaeen commemoration has become the largest human gathering on earth with over 25 million people in attendance from various parts of the globe.

“Our trek on foot here in Nigeria is just another way of saying had it been there is a safe passage to Karbala from here, we would have marched to Karbala to pay homage to Imam Husain (AS) on this auspicious day.

“However, we are aware of the antagonism shown to us by some people because of this Arbaeen commemoration by trekking.

“We will like to echo what our leader, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky(H), has been saying on many occasions in answer to our critics.

“He always said: ‘Those who oppose the trek should have come and asked us why we do what we do, and not to pass judgment on us over what they do not know.

“‘If you don’t like what we are doing, then keep your mouth shut, it is our legs we use to trek with, not yours.

“‘If you don’t like the black attire we wear, we put it on our bodies, not yours.

“‘We will never force you to trek or wear black clothes, until we do that keep your mouth shut,” Mainasara said, quoting El-Zakzaky.

According to him, im the absence of the savages Nigerian security agents who always attack us for no reason other than to please their foreign masters, last year’s Arbaeen trek ended oeacefully without recording casualties and no complain from the other highway users.

“Nobody should be afraid of our Arbaeen trek. Love for Imam Husain(as) is not the exclusive right of Muslims only, right from the gruesome attack on the Imam at Karbala, but for all those who love justice and fight against oppression in all ages, ours inclusive.

“That is why we once again welcome our Christian brothers in humanity who have chosen on their own free will to trek with us today.

“This is not the first time they have identified themselves with Imam Husain(AS), they have done it before and we thankfully welcome them.

“This is the handiwork of Allah. No one forced us to embark on the trek, it is out of free will and love for the Family of the Prophet(S). We pray that Allah thwart and frustrate the evil plans of the oppressors against us as he has done it in the past,” he said

According to Mainasara, the fortieth day (Arbaeen) commemoration after the martyrdom of Imam Husain, the Grandson of Prophet Muhammad (SAWA), is commemorated annually by the Islamic movement, following a symbolic trek by millions of people from across the country.

“This year’s Arba’een symbolic trek started since Sunday in Pambegua, while that of Kano, Funtua, Malumfshi and Kaduna holds yesterday Monday and ended Peacefully.

“The commemoration continues today here around Abuja and is to be concluded tomorrow God willing. Thousands of people marched from New Nyanya in Mararaba, Abuja-Keffi express way and also in Suleja.

“The purpose of the symbolic trek is to recall and experience the trial and tribulation faced by the Household of the Holy Prophet (AS), chained and dragged in a very hot and dry desert, barefoot from Karbala in Iraq to Damascus in Syria after the killing of Imam Husain 61 years after Hijra.

” It was a period of anger and anguish at the perpetrators of injustice not just in the plain of Karbala but the world over,” he said. (Flowerbudnews)

JUST IN: NNPP expels Kwankwaso over alleged anti-party activities

A faction of the New Nigeria Peoples Party under the leadership of Major Agbo has expelled the presidential candidate of the party, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, over his alleged anti-party activities and misappropriation of party campaign funds.

Kwankwaso’s expulsion was announced in a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday by the NNPP factional National Publicity Secretary, Abdulsalam Abdulrasaq.

The development is coming barely three days after the factional leaders vowed to probe the former Kano governor and some of his loyalists over alleged misappropriation of over N1bn, generated from the sale of nomination forms.

Abdulrasaq affirmed that the decision to expel Kwankwaso with immediate effect was taken after he failed to appear before the disciplinary panel to defend himself over the allegations of “gross anti-party activities and mismanagement of party campaign funds within five days.”

The spokesman, however, reiterated that his expulsion was done in line with the provisions of the party’s 2022 constitution as amended.

He said, “The NEC met in an emergency session on Friday, September 1, and resolved that following the refusal of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to appear before the disciplinary committee, which sat on Thursday, August 31, after being duly invited in writing, he is hereby, expelled from NNPP with immediate effect.

That the erstwhile presidential candidate, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso will be reported to appropriate quarters to answer questions on financial impropriety relating to mismanagement of public funds.”

Reacting, an ally of Kwankwaso and National Auditor of NNPP, Ladipo Johnson, frowned at the report, saying Agbo’s faction does not have the locus standi to dismiss the former governor.

“Expel who? These people are no longer our people. They are out of the party and cannot speak on behalf of the party. Let them form their own party or go to court. It is as simple as that. There are so many important things to worry about in this country.

“How can they expel Kwankwaso? Someone whose relationship with the National Working Committee is intact here at the national headquarters in Abuja? We will soon be having a press conference to address this matter,” he said.

Lagos:  The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has assured users of the Blue Line light rail of maximum security while on board the system.

Sanwo-Olu spoke as he joined the rail as its first passenger during its inaugural commercial operation, for the use of the masses in Lagos on Monday.

He acknowledged President Bola Tinubu for being the brain behind the achievement, by including the train in the master plan of the Lagos government.

The government said it had come to reality for Lagos residents to enjoy.

” So, we went to about five places within an hour to and fro; I must commend the working governor for this great project,” she said.

Speaking after a ride on the light rail, Sanwo-Olu expressed gratitude to the management of the Lagos State Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) for ensuring that safety and security of the train was properly managed throughout the journey.

He also commended the Lagos State Commissioner of Police as well as all the security agencies in Lagos for ensuring safety of lives and properties of the passengers while boarding the train.

He advised Lagos residents as well as students to obtain the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) Card and the Cowry Card, which had been integrated to board all the means of government transportation in Lagos.

Sanwo-Olu said that with the light rail, he, alongside other passengers, had been able to reach many places in Lagos and return in less than an hour.

He said that the multi-modal transportation had been fully integrated in Lagos with the commencement of the blue light rail.

The Senior Special Rail Design Engineer, LAMATA, Mr Abidemi Atobatele, said that all the terminals were covered by security men and Closed Circuit Television, assuring passengers of full security within the areas.

He said that the train was electrified and pleaded with the residents not to cross over the rail area, but to make use of the pedestrian bridges.

One of the passengers, Ahmed Farida, commended the Lagos State Government for completing the light rail project, saying it would ease movement across Lagos.

“With this train, there is no stress; we are able to move around. You can work with your time, and your mental health is intact now; gone are the days we complained of traffic and all of that.

” So, we went to about five places within an hour to and fro; I must commend the working governor for this great project,” she said.

She urged Lagos residents to support government in maintaining the light rail project.

Princess Mulikat Sanni, former, President, Chartered Institute of Transport Administration (CIoTA) urged Nigerians to ensure they maintain the light train project.

Sanni said that the commencement of the rail would create more job opportunities and add value to the economy of the state.

    The Managing Director, Lagos State
Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Mrs Abimbola Akinajo, had said ahead of the comnencement that with feasibility study, the train system would be conveying 175,000 passengers on daily basis.

She said that though the commercial operations would have begun in the first quarter of 2023, it was delayed to ensure that all modalities were in place.

”As you know, the first phase of the blue line was commissioned, the infrastructure completion was commissioned by Mr President (Former President, Muhammadu Buhari) in December.

”At the time, we had said to you we would start operations in March. Unfortunately, we did not, by the end of the first quarter, then it was by the end of the second quarter. Unfortunately, we had hiccups with power delivery.

”We are here to say that we are completely ready in terms of all operational infrastructure. The reason that we have been delayed is due to the fact that our power provision was delayed,” Akinajo had said.

The LAMATA boss said that the train service, which would run from Mile 2 to Marina, would run 12 trips on daily basis for a period of two weeks, and the service would gradually increase.

” We will be working according to a timetable. That timetable will be available on LAMATA’s website, that timetable will also be available at every station.

“When the train gets into any station, it will stop for no more than 90 seconds. So, you need to know, and this is it, for us to understand that it is a scheduled service,” she had said.

She said that the Blue Line Rail service had five stations which comprise Marina, National Theatre, Orile-Iganmu, Alaba, and Mile. (Flowerbudnews)

Gov. Otu declares 19th AKWAABA expo open, unveils 2023 Carnival Calabar theme

    By Taiye Olayemi

Gov. Bassey Otu of Cross River on Sunday declared the 19th AKWAABA Africa Travel and Tourism Market open in Lagos.

Otu commended the organiser of the travel market, Ikechi Uko, for his consistency over the years as he spoke on the need for such programmes.

“It gives me pleasure to be part of the unbroken staging and exhibition of the 19th AFRICA Travel Market event tagged AKWWABA.

“I also understand that for the second year, the medical tourism platform is being activated with a strong partnership with the Turkish group.

“This is particularly elating because for every good reason, the world needs to come together now more than ever.

“So, the 19th AKWAABA travel and tourism market is open as we all explore its benefits,” he said.

Otu hinted that the 2023 Carnival Calabar scheduled for December would have its theme as “The Season of Sweetness”.

He said the state was ready to host revellers across the globe, as a formidable team of dancers and entertainers have  been been put in place to excite visitors.

According to him, the carnival will exhibit rare colours, costumes, floats, pyrotechnics, magic, acrobatics and more through the 12 kilometre carnival route.

He said these were by no means overt expressions of the state and people’s heritage of hospitality and Africa’s warmest welcome.

“I am very pleased that we are here again to share that moment of joy that Calabar, Cross River State, offers the world as Africa’s warmest welcome.

“Carnival Calabar represents the most tangible tourism product in the calendar of events of Cross River state and in Nigeria in general.

“It was and still is a strategic plan for the actualisation of the vision of transforming Cross River State socio-economically through the instrumentality of the performing arts.

“Today, we are here to witness another theme unveiling, which stands our carnival out as an intellectual platform to entertain, educate, and inform our publics and audiences,” he said

The governor said moving forward, his administration would work on rejiging the carnival as efforts would be made on sustainability and inclusion to achieve set goals, exploring a robust public private partnership framework.

“This is to achieve mutually beneficial relations in naming rights, endorsements, sponsorships, merchandising and activations.

“It is in the realisation of these waiting opportunities that I have directed that the children’s carnival, aqua show and the exciting and colourful night of Kings and Queens to return to the carnival calendar.

“This is to create more opportunities for sponsors’ visibility.

“May I also thank the band leaders for their creativity to breathe life into the carnival themes in the past and for a job well done.

“We thank the sponsors, especially our broadcast partner, MULTICHOICE- DSTV, for a wonderful relationship through the past years,” he said.

Earlier, Sen. Florence Ita-Giwa, Leader of the Seagull Band, said the past editions of the carnival had explored topical themes like Africanism, climate change, industrialisation and more.

Ita-Giwa said individuals should desist from perceiving the carnival as mere dancing activities as it entailed telling beautiful stories that educate through dance and costumes.

She said in the processes of organising the carnival, people’s level of creativity is improved, most especially when crafted images had to be made to relay the stories.

“I am happy that we have a governor that is ready to uphold the carnival.

“Carnival Calabar has come to stay, it is not just about dancing but it is all about telling stories through our custumes and dances,” she said.

Earlier,  Uko said that no fewer than 2,500 delegates were attending the three-day AKWAABA Expo. (NAN) (nannews.ng)

Strike: Federal workers back NLC, vow to shutdown all secretariats

ABUJA—AS the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, embarks on a two-day warning strike today, the Federal Workers Forum, FWF, has vowed to shutdown Federal Secretariats across the country.

This was contained in a statement issued by Comrade Andrew Emelieze, the National Coordinator of FWF and former Trade Union Congress, Chairman, Oyo State Chapter.

The statement read: “We at the Federal Workers Forum are in full support of the call by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for a two days national warning strike from Tuesday 5th to 6th September, 2023 over issues of government insensitivity to the plight of workers and the citizenry at large.

“As federal workers, we are also badly affected by the economic crisis visited on Nigerians as a result of the hike in the pump price of petrol, all in the name of subsidy removal.

“We had earlier written to the federal government to adjust our wages automatically inline with the existing economic realities but that has fallen on deaf hears.

“It is over three months now that fuel subsidy had been removed and fuel has equally been increased twice by over 300% , with a price shift from ₦187 to over ₦620 but salaries have remained the same. Federal workers within this period have gone through excruciatingly tough times. It has been stories of mass suffering and life has been made almost meaningless to the federal workers.

“Everything has been nauseating and hunger is now a way of life among the federal workers. As a matter of fact, federal workers have been financially embarrassed as against the provisions of the general order of the federal civil service rules and regulations.

“Federal government workers are no slaves,we therefore query this pathetic situation and call on all federal workers to ensure that the two days warning strike is successful.

“We call on the federal workers to ensure that all federal government Secretariat across the federation is shut down during the strike period. Workers are to also ensure that every other government offices, departments and agencies are shut down nationwide.

We call on all industrial unions, organising federal workers to comply with the directives of the NLC.

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) is also called upon to ensure the success of this strike action

We urge the federal government to meet up with the demands of labour.

We demand also that government pay up all outstanding arrears of salaries, promotions, duty tour allowances (DTA) owed the federal workers and particular attention to the arrears of salaries of federal university workers in Nigeria.

“Henceforth, federal workers will no longer tolerate any oppression of federal workers anywhere and we shall not hesitate to join any workers group in solidarity strike when oppression is noticed; our attention here is drawn to the plight of our colleagues in the federal universities.

“We equally call on the NLC to pursue this struggle to a logical conclusion and stop this mass cheating of workers. The NLC must not disappoint Nigerians, the labour movement has our collective support.”

Why Tinubu appointed Gbajabiamila CoS — Sources

FRESH details on the reasons President Bola Tinubu appointed former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, as Chief of Staff, CoS, from a retinue of interested and qualified associates of his, have emerged.

Shedding more light on the “meticulous process ” behind his choice of CoS, sources close to President Tinubu, said he had articulated his vision for the ideal Chief of Staff before publicly declaring his interest to run. “He was determined to select an individual who possessed a unique blend of qualities to navigate the complexities of Nigerian politics successfully.”

Tinubu’s knack for selecting capable individuals for key positions has been widely praised.

Tinubu’s knack for selecting capable individuals for key positions has been widely praised.

One of the sources disclosed that President Tinubu had recognized the significance of the role of Chief of Staff in his administration.

“He was keenly aware of the intricate terrain of Nigerian politics, particularly after the late Abba Kyari’s ‘influential tenure’ in the position.

Tinubu, also known for his decisiveness and thorough consideration of key appointments, “was seeking a Chief of Staff with a specific set of qualities. Experience and a proven track record were non-negotiable criteria. He had no intention of entering the presidency with a Chief of Staff who was still learning the ropes of how to support a President in running a nation,” source said, adding that Tinubu closely observed the performance of Femi Gbajabiamila during his tenure as Speaker of the House of Representatives.” The source continued: “Gbajabiamila’s experience in managing various national challenges, including handling national strikes and negotiating with unions, made him stand out among contenders for the role.

“None of the other contenders came close to the level of nation-building experience that Gbajabiamila had acquired during his time as the No. 4 man in the country.

“President Tinubu was not swayed by how long someone has been around him but rather focused on capacity, posture, and competence when selecting his Chief of Staff. This commitment to competence and experience showcased his determination to hit the ground running and effectively lead Nigeria.”

The conversations regarding the Chief of Staff appointment reportedly gained momentum after the removal of the fuel subsidy, a move that initially stirred concerns about national stability, and the President’s resolve to find a perfect fit became more urgent as he needed someone that is both loyal and is also able to support the president in maintaining calm and peace during this challenging time.

Two other factors that Presidential Villa sources disclosed influenced the decision was hardwork and ability to use government resources to support the people.

The sources said Gbajabiamila was always with the President during the campaign, many times travelling late at nights putting in a lot of hard work during what was a dicey campaign.

According to them, President Tinubu was impressed by the timing of the Students Loan Bill which he signed to the applause of many in the country because of the wide appeal for the legislation by many Nigerians. The signing of that bill orchestrated by Gbajabiamila gave huge political capital to the President.
