  • Never Use Dishwashing Liquid To Wash Your Car – Car Talk

(FLOWERBUDNEWS) Dishwashing liquid is designed to aggressively attack and break down dried food, oil and grease.

That’s great for dishes — not so great for car paint. Car paint, clear coat and car wax contain oils and resins that maintain the paint’s integrity and filter out harmful UV rays.

When you wash your car with dishwashing liquid, you actually strip off the wax and pull some of those critical oils out of the paint and paint sealants, leaving it bare and exposed to the elements.

If you immediately wax your car with a high-quality wax, you can restore some of the UV protection. If you don’t wax your car after washing with dishwashing liquid , you lose important sun protection.

If you regularly wash your car with dishwashing liquid, you’ll degrade the paint and clear coat enough over its life to cause premature fading and even early paint failure.

  • 524 ongoing road projects across Nigeria—Fashola

(FLOWERBUDNEWS) Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola has said that a total of 524 road projects were ongoing in the different geo-political zones in the country.
Fashola said this while addressing the House of Representatives Committee on Works chaired by Rep. Ahmed Birchi in Abuja.
The minister said there were four multilateral-funded road projects, 81 under the Presidential Infrastructural Development Fund and 45 others being funded under the Sukuk bond.
He said that the ministry was focusing on roads that open up the economy and contribute to the ease of doing business.
He added that “Nigeria would be back on its feet” if government could ensure that there was no failure on roads that stretched from ports to border cities.
“What remains is to finish; the real challenge for us and our recommendation is to adopt the policy statement of the president and focus on whatever resources we have towards completing as many of the those projects as possible.”
He added that a funding gap of ?255 billion was required to “ideally” fund some of the major roads and stressed that the ?157 billion 2020 budget allocation was inadequate.
Fashola said that ?2.93 billion was pending in unpaid certificates under the multilateral funded projects, while ?306 billion was the amount for unpaid certificates for completed road projects.
On private sector investment in road projects, the minister, however cautioned that the government “must not play play politics” with such investment.
He also said that the ministry undertook a traffic count on strategic roads nationwide which supported the argument of the toll gate system on Nigerian roads.
“For the first time in 10 years, the Ministry of Works undertook a traffic count nationwide on strategic roads; we completed it in 2017.
“What you see (in the document) before you are reports; so where you see Average Daily Traffic (ADT), the top item on the far right is Enugu-Abakaliki and it shows ADT is 20,746 vehicles.
“The projected traffic in 20 years is what is under it and if you look through all those columns from the left, Lagos-Ibadan, Ogere North side the ADT there is reported as 25.1 thousand and projected to rise to 45,000 vehicles.
“This (document) provides more information for those who make the argument that if you toll the roads you get all the money.”
He added that the busiest road in the country was the Third Mainland Bridge with a vehicular traffic of 117,000 plus average daily traffic.
NAN reports that the Ministry of Works and Housing got the highest projected allocation of N262 billion from the N10. 33 trillion budget estimates presented by President Muhammadu Buhari to a joint session of the National Assembly on Tuesday.  (NAN)

  • Sanwo-Olu Donates 50 Cars To Lagos Magistrates

(FLOWERBUDNEWS) Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has given 50 new cars to magistrates as part of efforts to enhance dispensation of justice.

While handing over the vehicles, Sanwo-Olu said that the cars were in the first batch as more would be provided to go round all magistrates in the state.

According to him, his administration will identify other arms of government that are also very critical and support them.

“This is just a testimonial to say that it is not about us, but about what we can give others.

“The Deputy Governor, myself and all of us do not count ourselves worthy to buy a car yet because we know that what is expected of us is service.

“We are happy that we can do this for our colleagues in the judiciary side to enhance the efficiency of their work so that Nigerians will feel it and benefit from it,’’ the governor said.

The state’s Chief Judge, Justice Kazeem Alogba, commended the government for the gesture in spite of the financial constraints of the state.

Alogba said that the cars were not mere tools of comfort for the magistrates, but “tools to enhance their work.”

“The only thing is that they will be able to work more comfortably and your administration will take the credit for that because you will begin to see results.

“We are very grateful as this has shown that as we pledge our full support to this administration, you have promised that you will be our pillar of support, you are living the talk,’’ he said. (NAN)

  • Fayemi: We Can Do Away With Senate

(FLOWERBUDNEEWS) The governor of Ekiti state, Kayode Fayemi, says Nigeria can scrap the senate as all the country really needs is a unicameral legislature.

Speaking at the just concluded 25th edition of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group conference, the governor said Nigeria has to look into the size of government.

“We do need to look at the size of government in Nigeria and I am an advocate of a unicameral legislature. What we really need is the house of representatives because that is what represents,” he said at a session monitored by TheCable.

“You have three senators from little Ekiti and you have three senators from Lagos state. It’s a no-brainer that it’s unequal, I guess the principle is not proportionality but that if you are a state, you get it automatically but I think that we can do away with that. There are several things that we can do away within the government.

“The Oronsaye report that proposed mergers of several MDAs that are doing the same thing is something that the government should pay serious attention to and reduce the resources being expended on them.”

Nigeria’s national assembly consists of a senate with 109 members and a 360-member house of representatives.

    HOW GOVERNORS SPEND SECURITY VOTE

Defending the security vote spent by governors, Fayemi, who was also a former minister of mines and steel, said: “Security vote exists in various forms and not just in Nigeria. They may not call it security vote, they may call it contingency vote.

“The important thing is the government utilises a wide range of mechanism to guarantee security in a state and it is not just ammunition and weapons that I am talking about. Even keeping the touts in check is a security challenge in many states and managing that process may cost you money that you cannot necessarily show the auditors.

“The other element which states don’t get credit for is what we do for the federal police. Nigeria is the only federation in the world that I know runs a centralised police force. You have federal police that is not being funded properly by the federal government so the responsibility for funding those guys that are posted to your state is on the state. You buy uniforms, ammunition, pay allowances, do life insurance, buy vehicles; that is not provided for and that is security vote because we are expected to protect the citizens.

“Let me also say this, you will not hear it out there from anybody. When people are kidnapped and their relatives are harassing the governor or security institutions to track down the victims.

“We track them down, we know where they are. What you hear us say outside is that we don’t pay ransom and we stick by that. We don’t pay ransom, we don’t bribe kidnappers but we get those people released.

“I will not go into the ugly details but we spend money in ensuring that we get abductees and victims out of harm’s way because ultimately that is what the victim wants us to do. The parents don’t want to hear the story that we don’t pay a ransom. You just have to whatever you have to do to ensure that we get our citizens out of danger.”

Fayemi was on the panel alongside Babatunde Fowler, executive chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Jordi Borrut Bel, Nigerian Breweries MD, and Eme Essien, country manager of the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
